The temperatures are up, the sun’s shining – it’s time to get back out there!

You couldn’t ask for a better playground than the North Ogden – Farr West area. With Highway 89 to bike or jog along, as well as the Rail Trail and the south marina of Willard Bay to explore, against the majestic backdrop of Willard Peak & Mount Ogden, there’s hardly a better place to bike, hike, drive, or jog.

The city of Farr West is well into their latest park project: constructing Smith Family Park, which is directly across Highway 126 (2000 W) from Smith & Edwards. The Rodeo arena is taking shape, and the playground equipment has started to arrive. We’re so excited to see this huge family park taking shape!

Keep ’em Cool in Camo: Kids’ Camo!

My brother Craig buys all the camo for Smith & Edwards. He has a saying that’s famous here: “Nothing says COOL like CAMO!”

Back several years ago, most camo was just available in men’s sizes. Ladies and kids wore the smallest men’s sizes they could find.

Luckily the camo companies got on board, and now not only can you find ladies’ camo – both pink camo and ladies’ sizes of Kryptek, Realtree, and Mossy Oak patterns – but boys’ camo and girls camo, too!

Sam and his big sister Emileigh wanted to help me show you some of the youth camo available at Smith & Edwards. Sam and Emileigh are the son and daughter of Amy, who works at Smith & Edwards in our inventory department. Here they are!

How did we keep Emileigh & Sam warm in a photoshoot below 30 degrees on a cold Utah winter day? A secret from our Surplus department…

Youth Polypropelene from Surplus

That’s right, you’ve been asking for youth-sized polypropelene just like the adult sizes we carry. This stuff is the best for ice fishing, night fishing, layering for other cold activities like hiking, snowshoeing, and even keeping in your emergency gear.

It’s nearly impossible to find youth polypropelene thermals, so when our surplus department got in a shipment, they asked me to tell you about it! Come in and get yours while they last. You can also find them online here with our top cold weather gear picks.

We have brown and black in select tops & bottoms. Both Emileigh and Sam are wearing a size Medium of the polypropelene crew neck shirt and pants.

Polypropelene wicks away moisture and continues to retain warmth – even when wet! It’s a good insulation materia, very warm, and it’s not itchy like wool. Polyproplene launders well, so it’s easy to wash and dry.

Polyproplene thermals can be hard to find because it’s not as well-known as cotton or polyester! And, it’s especially hard to come by polyproplene in kids’ sizes, because there’s not a high demand for extreme cold weather clothing for children, like there is for the adult sizes. But when you find it, it’s the same quality as the adult sizes. As our Surplus manager Ryan Seager told me, this is “Adult quality in KIDS’ sizes!”

Plus, these tops & bottoms fold up very compact, especially compared to wool and puffy jackets – so they are great for emergency kits.

Now it’s October and the days are warm, but the morning and evenings are chilly. With the days getting shorter and the temperatures getting cooler, it’s easy to let your mind drift to cozy fall-inspired outfits.

Cool in Blue: Fun Women’s Rodeo Outfits

Rodeo season is gearing up! So for both the serious competitor and the die-hard rodeo fan, we have the rodeo apparel you need, to get you noticed.

Ranch Menswear Inspiration

The guys I see come in to Smith & Edwards who work a ranch, know what they like. They stick to the brands that work for them: Wrangler, Carhartt, Ariat. As a wife, it’s straightforward to get him a new shirt or new pair of jeans that I know he’ll love – because it’s just like his old ones.

Get your hard-working husband a good new vest or pair of pants for Easter: he’ll be blown away by how well you “get” what he likes.

From functional and practical, to classic and just good looking, this ranch-inspired outfit has the hard-working rancher covered.

Wrangler’s 47MWZ premium performance, advanced comfort jean was built with the working cowboy in mind. An update of the 13MWZ western original jean, the 47MWZ has a more comfortable waist, larger front pockets – for that all-important cell phone, 20% longer lasting denim, and smoother seams. Ladies’ Turquoise & Aztec Outfit Inspiration for Spring

Need a little spring outfit inspiration? This outfit is all about turquoise and that fun, edgy Aztec pattern you see everywhere now. Dress it up with shiny or antiqued silver, while keeping warm in soft knit cardigan by Stetson. Check out your Aztec outfit inspiration for this month:

This is your perfect outfit going into spring!

Put this so-soft Stetson acrylic/wool blend Aztec cardigan on over a fun lightweight chiffon Aztec-print tank. Pair them with Cowgirl Tuff turquoise stitch amazing fit jeans.

Then, top it off with the perfect silver Aztec-inspired jewelry: pictured, Montana Silversmiths antiqued silver filigree cuff and Rock 47 Aztec chevron necklace and earrings set.

A little Western inspiration in honor of Valentine’s Day.

For the Ladies
